Hilltop Aerie
Perched overlooking the valley to the southwest, this home takes full advantage of its site. A courtyard entrance uses Mugo and pinon pines in combination with blue fescue, centranthus, coneflower, potentilla and Russian sage. A bubbling circular fountain on river stones makes this entry a small oasis, with a variety of Indian pots arranged as part of the beds. Inside, views from the living and dining rooms draw in the visitor. The kitchen and dining areas, with soft wood-tones and buff diamond-finish walls replicate the colors of the earth outside. Mexican dining chairs and a custom-made buffet/bar are special pieces in this room. In the master bedroom a potted hoya vine grows from the fireplace hearth across the sill of the mountain-framing window. The guest room features Mexican cactus-wood furniture. An additional, separate guest area displays an antique rug from Beluchistan, as well as a Nepalese Thanka on the wall.
