Las Colonius Garden
Two and a half acres of extensive grounds hold a series of perennial beds within a refreshing sweep of lawn made possible by the high water table and proximity to Arroyo Seco Creek. This is an idyllic setting, with willow, aspen, birch, evergreens, cottonwoods and crabapples framing a series of garden views. Rocky Mountain lilacs, forsythia, currant, plum and dogwoods are used very effectively as mid-height landscape elements.
A pea-gravel path ends at the fish pond, inhabited by over fifty koi and goldfish. A water-spouting frog sculpture oversees the pond, edged by Virginia Creeper. Pink globe mallow, ladies mantle, day lilies, roses, yarrow and delphiniums are just a few of the many perennials to be seen in the beds. Even a pumpkin patch thrives in a low area. At the rear of the property a large circular bed of penstemons, catmint and Russian sage shares the slope with fruit trees
